The TimberTek Ecoboard technology is available in 3 Firewire models. Baked Potato, Spitfire and the Unibrow.

TIMBERTEK represents a significant step forward towards the holy grail of any product designed and manufactured in today’s environmentally conscious world. While by no means sustainably built, Firewire’s TIMBERTEK has by far one of the least toxic and smallest carbon footprints of any commercially available surfboard today.

Grant Newby, a talented Australian craftsman first turned us on to the potential of this construction, and following his lead, our internal R&D and production crew worked tirelessly to make this tech possible in a production setting. Building one-offs or small quantities is one thing (and not to be discounted), but it took a tremendous effort to overcome all the issues that arose as we tweaked the original recipe to increase performance and build reasonable quantities. Of course having our own vertical factory was a huge help.

The combination of a lightweight EPS core, sustainably-grown wood deck skins, Firewire’s proprietary parabolic rail construction, and anEntropy bio-resin hot coat yield an extremely lightweight, durable surfboard with ALL of the high performance flex characteristics of Firewire’s existing technologies. Even more impressive, the physical properties of the raw materials involved have allowed us to remove exterior fiberglass, furthering the reduction of the board’s carbon footprint. Or as we like to describe TIMBERTEK, it’s simply High Performance Art.

Taj X Mayhem = The Beach Buggy

Designed specifically with input and feedback from world tour veteran and high performance surfing icon, Taj Burrow. This collaboration/collection stems from the work done to satisfy TBs needs for his trademark brand of razor sharp and explosive, cutting edge competitive and free surfing. With two World Tour wins (Snapper Rocks and Steamer Lane) in our first full season (2012) of working together, the results more than speak for themselves.

Derived from the Whiplash-TB. The TB-Stepdown is more of an “every-mans” high performance shortboard. Used by many WT and Qualifying Series competitors, because it works equally well in small junk surf. Featuring the Same WL-TB, hyper extended tail rocker (for tight radius arcs off the back foot) but a significantly more relaxed entry rocker, which combined with a wider nose allows for more drive and forward momentum , and stability, with a bigger landing platform from reverse and tweaked airs. A wider hip and tail block is added to the outline in the tail for more lift at low speeds, but the tail width at 12” is relatively the same as the WL- TB. This allows for superior precision and control than most al other “grovel” boards. With the centerline and rail volume is carried farther into the rails….and out to nose and tail the TB-stepdown is designed to be ridden 1-2” shorter than the WLashTB. In the right size, this is a HP shortboard that can be ridden and enjoyed by most surfers of average to above average ability…not just for skinny kids and pros.

MAYHEM IN OZ

Surfculture is happy to announce that we are now stocking DHD surfboards once again.

Darren Handley grew up on Australia’s wave rich Gold Coast, a unique place in the World with regards to the high concentration of world famous waves and the talent the coast continually produces. It is the Gold Coast’s variety of waves that has allowed Darren to hone his skills for creating the most responsive boards in the world. Regarded as one of the world’s best shapers the writing is on the wall in terms of DH’s achievements, including 2X ASP World Champion Mick Fanning and 5X ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore.

DH is not simply a shaper, but rather the complete surfboard manufacturer. “At nearly 50 years old, I’m still picking up the sander and working in the glass room, I’m hands on. It’s all about the perfect surfboard, and surrounding yourself with the most skilled workers in the industry, to create that ultimate ride.”-DH
Although Darren has paved much of the way for himself, he is heavily influenced by his team riders and those closest to him in the surfing community. No one has passion like DH, and when it comes to making surfboards he has devoted his life to giving everyone the ultimate experience when they ride a DHD board.

Jordy Smith’s Futures Fin

FUTURES RELEASES JORDY SMITH SIGNATURE FIN

Futures is proud to announce the release of the new Jordy Smith Signature Fin. The release marks the first of a series of Futures fins to be designed by Jordy, geared towards high performance surfing in all conditions.Performance is innate in Jordy. He grew up in his dad’s surfboard factory, taking on knowledge about surfboard design when he was only just learning to ride one.”I used to lay up the fins in the shop. I’ve worked on thousands of boards, and have had a lot of experience with fin placement, tow angles, cants and templates,” Jordy said during a recent interview with Futures. “When I signed with Futures, they came on board and said we’re going to make you your own fin, and I was super excited.”This fin represents Jordy’s in-depth knowledge of his equipment and his ability to translate a feeling in the water into a fin description for the engineers to work from. The large area suits Jordy’s big frame perfectly. Featuring a wider base and thinner tip, the template has laid back lines, accentuating Jordy’s effortless approach to a tee.”I was surfing New Pier, my homebreak, and the board just felt so under my feet. It felt super alive. I was pushing as hard as I could and at the same time when I wanted to release, I could. It was mid-way through this year that I really found the fin, and I was just like this is really what I want for my surfing.”The Jordy Smith Signature Fin is available in stores now, in the Large size. Coming Spring 2013 the Small and Medium size Jordy fins will be available, so surfers of all size can benefit from Jordy’s designs.

Taylor Steele’s ‘This Time Tomorrow’

The master of surf films Taylor Steele is set to release his latest, ‘This Time Tomorrow’ on October 21st. The film documents Craig Anderson and Dave Rastovich chasing one swell across the Pacific. If you are a fan of Sipping Jetstreams or Castles in the Sky, then this is well worth checking out.

Local Bondi boy Perth Standlick recently took 2nd place in the 6 star San Miguel pro, Zarautz in Spain. Riding a JS Monsta he grabbed from the 2nd hand rack here at Surfculture. This now takes him to 58th in the world rankings and a few steps closer to making the illusive WCT.

DFR’s & Motorboat Too

After a long wait they are here. Well some of them. We just received a 6’1 and 6’2 in the very popular Dane Freakin’ Reynolds by Channel Islands. The guys also dropped off some of the new Motorboat Too. We have a 5’5, 5’7, 5’9 and 5’11 in-store . My guess is that the boards wont last, after all the phone calls I’ve had over the last few weeks, so be quick and swing by the shop if you have a chance to put one under your arm.
Taj Burrow also swung by the shop today on his way home from Fiji. He decided to leave a few boards that we’ve put out in the 2nd hand rack, so if you like that feeling of a light pro board, come in and check em out.

We just received a small run of the Lost Rock up in-store and they look amazing! If you’re after a shorter board to surf some better waves in, this board could be ideal. With it’s pulled in pin tail and some extra volume up front to get you into those bigger ones early they are a great board for those hollow days at home or as a great travel board when on the road. STACEY 2012 / 2013

The Stacey 2012 / 2013 range has started to arrive in store, we now have the following models in store. HB Pro, Werewolf, Shovel Head, Taxi and the Werewolf Step up. If any of the other models interest you we can organise custom orders.

FROM LEFT TO RIGHT:

BULLFROG – 5’2 X 21 X 2 3/8. It’s the perfect grovel board for when you wouldn’t even think about surfing. Surf when no one else can.

SHOVEL HEAD – 5’8 X 19 3/4 X 2 1/2. An exciting ‘fish style’ surfboard that’s super fun to ride. It’s got a very functional feel.

BOUNTY HUNTER – 5’8 X 18 7/8 X 2 1/4. An extension of The Guild. A more conventional look to the outline. It sits well between the Shovel Head and the Taxi.

WOLF – 5’10 X 18 7/8 X 2 5/16. THE WOLF has a flat rocker with a small flip at both ends, not to dissimilar from THE TWIST, but not so much tail rocker. A rounded pintail from one of my gun templates that has been shrunk down and widened.

TAXI – 5’10 X 19 X 2 5/16. It surfs exactly like an everyday shortboard in less than desirable conditions, and also when the waves are cooking and you can’t get there fast enough. It will replace your fish if you want to ride one board.

WEREWOLF – 5’11 X 18 1/2 X 2 1/4. The WEREWOLF is an easy transition from your WOLF or small wave board of choice. It’s a great, all round, everyday shortboard.

HB PRO – 5’11 X 18 3/4 X 2 5/16. The HB PRO is the performance shortboard for the everyday surfer. Even though this board is described as being a high performance surfboard, it’s way more forgiving than any other board I’ve shaped in the past (S6, Hoodlum etc…)

WEREWOLF STEP-UP – 6’3 X 18 7/8 X 2 3/8. A Step-Up board from your Werewolf or HB Pro. Thinking of heading OS for some waves? Winter bringing the goods? This is the board.
